I came across this fellow while mowing today - he was not willing to move even with the mower nudging him. Since he was obviously not old and tattered, I guess that he was brand new and was waiting for his wings to dry. I was able to get a camera and the family back out to him where we watched him for a minute before he finally flew off.

This is an interesting situation. What I did on the bike here put me in some danger from the car pulling out, but I've decided it's still pretty much the right thing to do. Staying behind a car that is slowing down to turn is super dangerous since a distracted driver behind can easily kill a cyclist. Moving to the left of the lane or even slightly out of it gives the cyclist options. Just be aware that you're invisible to people ahead and ready to brake. The car driver that pulled out here did nothing wrong. I may have been legally in the wrong but it's IMO the safest way to handle this situation, including braking and yielding to the car when it pulled out.
